Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand

Welcome to the 2nd International Training Course on Integrated Coastal Zone Planning and Management using Geoinformation Technologies to be scheduled for 23 November to 4 December 2009. The Venue is Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.

The effective management and monitoring of coastal zone and the associated resources require spatio-temporal multivariate data sets and an efficient information infrastructure, upon which one can use advanced technologies for data acquisition, integration, dissemination, and analysis. Use of geoinformation data and toolsets like GIS and RS has become a smart practice in decision making for coastal and marine applications.

The course aims to enhance the capabilities of professionals and technical staffs working in the field of coastal zone management (planning, resources management, disaster management etc.). The course is designed for persons with engineering, natural science or social science background, who require knowledge and skills on the use of GIS and Remote Sensing in planning and resources management.

This course is built around 2 specialized modules covering basic understanding of the geoinformation technologies and application tools. During the two weeks, participants will be given an overview of geoinformation technologies, which will be followed by coastal resources management issues, applications of remote sensing and GIS in this field and case studies.

Participants are welcome from a broad range of organizations including coastal zone management authorities, NGOs, Government’s research and planning organizations, disaster management and emergency response agencies, and professional and private service providers.
